Pacific LightNet Communications Announces a One-Of-A-Kind Wireless Feed to Cover this Week’s (Honolulu, HI) — Pacific LightNet will be responsible for bringing streaming video of the upcoming Billabong Junior Pro surf contest to the world – via their wireless technology. The five-year-old company will utilize a 10meg high-speed, point-to-point live video feed originating from their building in downtown Honolulu to the Kewalo Basin contest location. They will then be utilizing their mobile wireless trailer on-site connected to the various cameras to provide live images around the world via the www.billabong.com website. Pacific LightNet President, Pat Bustamante, says “The technology is proven and has advanced now to the point where it is commercially available at a reasonable rate. I believe we’re the only company in Hawai‘i that has the ability to deploy a trailer and create this type of environment.” Bustamante adds, “We will also have a WiFi enabled hot spot for participants and attendees to be able to use their laptop computers and connect to the Internet as well.” The contest waiting period runs August 26th through September 1st and features the hottest male and female junior surfers in Hawai‘i. The company will also be providing telephone services using their 808NetFone which is Pacific LightNet’s consumer voiceover IP which will also be carried across the wireless connection. “What we’re doing now is demonstrating the fact that we’re capable of providing these types of broadband and video connections to the web from multiple remote locations,” Bustamante surmises. Bustamante admits he is not an accomplished surfer, but is “a great spectator of surfing”.
